Century Cycles named a Gold Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists

Renewal of award first earned in 2014

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Today, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Century Cycles with a Gold Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award, joining over 1,000 visionary businesses across the country that have received the award.

With the announcement of 114 new and renewing BFBs today, Century Cycles joins a cutting-edge group of 1,200 current Bicycle Friendly Businesses, made up of local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies in all 50 states and Washington, DC, that are transforming the American workplace.

"As we celebrate National Bike Month and the tenth year of the Bicycle Friendly Business program, the League of American Bicyclists is honored to recognize our latest new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses. These companies and organizations are making their workplaces and their communities safer, happier, healthier, and more sustainable through bicycling," said Amelia Neptune, Director of the Bicycle Friendly America program. "We applaud these businesses, including Century Cycles, for leading the charge in creating a more bicycle-friendly America for everyone."

Century Cycles encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities for its staff, such as indoor bike storage, access to expert service and parts, a guaranteed ride home in case of foul weather, and incentives such as in-store credit for biking to work. The Gold BFB award applies to all three of the locally-owned Century Cycles stores, located in Medina, Peninsula, and Rocky River, Ohio.

"It's not just about selling bikes; it's about improving the quality of life in our communities," said Century Cycles Owner Scott Cowan. "We take pride in helping people of all ages make healthy lifestyle choices, whether it's through our Bike To School Challenge, our presentations at employee wellness fairs for local companies, or sponsoring local rides. Getting the word out helps more and more people realize that bicycling can be an easy part of the solution to many complex problems."

Century Cycles is a renewing Bicycle Friendly Business for 2018. When they first earned the BFB award in 2014, they were the first bicycle shop in Northeast Ohio to be recognized as such, and the first business of any kind in Ohio to be named a Gold level Bicycle Friendly Business.

Moving forward, Century Cycles will have access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly. When people bike, great things happen.
