Medina Gazette: Cycle shop offers free bike how-to classes
February 5, 2013
MEDINA -- It's no fun to ride a bike on ice and snow. But winter is an ideal time to learn how to repair and maintain a bicycle and to sharpen riding skills.
Century Cycles, 1059 N. Court St., is hosting a series of free clinics aimed at doing just that.
The most popular clinic covers basic bike maintenance and will be 1:30 p.m. Feb. 16 and 6:30 p.m. March 7.
The session taught by a professional mechanic will explain essential bike maintenance skills, including changing a flat tire, cleaning and lubricating a bicycle chain, the importance of a five-minute pre-ride safety check and what to take on every bike ride.
All clinics are about 45 to 60 minutes long and are offered simultaneously at all three Century Cycles stores -- Medina, Peninsula and Rocky River -- unless otherwise noted.
Attendees receive a 15 percent discount on all bicycle accessories and parts purchased immediatly after each clinic.
Other clinics will be 6:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- today, bike touring 101
- Thursday, cleaning and lubricating bicycle chains
- Feb. 12, tandem bicycles 101 (offered only at Medina store)
- Feb. 19, roadside repair
- Feb. 26, bike commuting 101
- Feb. 28, preparing for the MS150 and other event rides
- March 5, riding in traffic
