Century Cycles adds new line, Masi Bicycles; celebrates with free party honoring bike film "Breaking Away"

Rocky River, OH - Century Cycles has added its first new bicycle line in eight years, Masi Bicycles, and is marking the occasion with a free party for northeast Ohio bicycling fans.

The Breaking Away Party with Masi and Century Cycles will be held on Friday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at the Century Cycles in Rocky River (19955 Detroit Road). The free party will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the classic bicycling movie "Breaking Away" and also introduce the Masi bikes that Century Cycles will carry at its stores in Medina, Rocky River, and Peninsula, Ohio.

"When we saw the 2009 Masi bicycles at a trade show last September, they stopped us dead in our tracks. They were absolutely stunning," said Scott Cowan, owner of Century Cycles. "We're seeing growth in sales of traditionally-styled steel bicycles and that's the type of bike Masi does best."

Masi joins Raleigh, Giant, Diamondback, and Electra as Century Cycles main bicycle lines. The local bike chain saw a 10% increase in revenues in 2008 and was recently ranked in the top 10 among 1,200 Raleigh dealers in the United States.

Ranked #8 on the American Film Institute's 100 Most Inspiring Movies of All Time, "Breaking Away" has a connection to Masi Bicycles, too: The main character and hero of the film, "Dave," rides a 1978 Masi Gran Criterium in the movie. (Century Cycles will have the 2009 Masi Gran Criterium on display at the party.)

Paying tribute to Dave's obsession with Italian culture, the party will also treat guests to Italian food catered by Coleone's in Avon and the opera music featured in the film. They can watch clips from the movie, learn about the Little 500 (now the largest amateur bike race in the U.S.), and register to win prizes like a 2009 Masi Soulville bicycle.

The Breaking Away Party with Masi and Century Cycles is free and open to the public, with no RSVP necessary. For more information, call 440-356-5705, visit www.centurycycles.com or e-mail info@centurycycles.com.
