RTA is doing a great promotion next week! Century Cycles and ClevelandBikes are hoping you'll be a part of this and future Bike-to-Work Days on the last Friday of each month. Each of us can help make Cleveland a better place to live and work. Spread the word by forwarding this to others, too! Here is RTA's press release:
Take a Pass on the Pump and give your wallet a rest on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, by walking, jogging, or taking public transportation to work. Walking, cycling and running groups throughout the region are organizing activities for people of all ages. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is also distributing free fare cards to encourage commuters to use public transportation.
RTA and WMVX radio will host a morning rally downtown on Public Square from 6:30 - 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 22. Stop by and enjoy lots of fun and music plus enter to win a summer fun package that includes memberships to Cleveland MetroParks Zoo, Cleveland Botanical Garden, Great Lakes Science Center, HealthSpace Cleveland, and tickets to Playhouse Square Shows, Tribe home games and a year of free rides on RTA!
The Federal Transit Administration estimates that if Americans used public transportation for 10 percent of their daily travel needs, the nation would reduce its dependence on foreign oil by more than 40 percent. Currently, public transportation saves 50 million barrels of oil every year, and removes 50,000 vehicles from Northeast Ohio roadways.
