1. BikeTown Update
As we reported in the last edition of the eNewsletter, Cleveland has been chosen as a 2005 BikeTown by Rodale Inc., the publishers of Bicycling magazine. Fifty local people will receive free bicycles and accessories in an award ceremony tentatively scheduled for May 28.
The contest is now open! To register to win one of the 50 BikeTown bicycles, go to the official BikeTown web site at:
Click on the "Cleveland, OH" link in the list of cities for further instructions on how to submit your entry, which must include an essay of 50 words or less on why you feel you deserve one of the bikes. If you do not wish to enter yourself, please feel free to spread the word to any other deserving people that you know!
For up-to-date local news on the BikeTown Project, see our BikeTown page on the Century Cycles web site at:
The snow has melted, and temperatures are rising, which means cycling season is finally upon us! And just in time, the Pearl Izumi Spring Breakaway Sale is also upon us!
Stop into any of our four stores April 9 through 16, 2005 for 20% savings off selected Pearl Izumi shorts, shoes, gloves, and jerseys.
Don't miss this chance to breakaway from the pack with Century Cycles and Pearl Izumi!
4. Advocacy Update: Cuyahoga Valley National Park
The hard-working folks at the Cleveland Area Mountain Biking Association (CAMBA) are continuing their efforts to increase the availability of singletrack mountain biking opportunities in Northeastern Ohio. As a part of this effort, they have recently held discussions with officials of the the National Park Service about mountain biking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP). You can read about the status of these discussions on CAMBA's web site at:
You can help keep mountain bike trails open! Join CAMBA, and join them for their next trail-building day on April 9 at West Branch State Park! Details may be found at http://www.camba.us.
5. Get Ready for Night Rides on the Towpath
Pump those tires, lube that chain, and recharge your headlamp batteries! That's right, the first of this season's Night Rides on the Towpath is only three weeks away!
Night Rides on the Towpath are one of our most popular events, and are held at least once per month April through October. The first ride for this year is on Friday, April 22. These casual, family-friendly rides are for cyclists of all abilities, and last from one-and-a-half to two hours on mostly flat terrain. They begin and end at our Peninsula store, which is located right on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
For the full 2005 schedule of Night Rides on the Towpath, directions, and other information, see:
In addition to our Night Rides on the Towpath, Century Cycles sponsors and/or supports many other cycling-related events in our area. Looking for a one-week tour? Training for your first century ride? Is the Good Samaritan in you calling you to ride for charity? Hard-core racer with pro aspirations? Whatever your goals and needs, there is an organized ride out there for you.
See our ride, race, and event calendars to plan your riding schedule for the entire year!
A tradition for many years for the city of Cleveland and for Century Cycles, this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 17 offered sunny weather, lots of fun bikes, and good times for everyone. To top it off, we were awarded the second place prize in the Novelty Unit division by the parade committee!
